Marriage Allowance UK: Free £252 a Year
If one of you earns under £12,570 and the other is a basic-rate taxpayer, you can transfer £1,260 of personal allowance — worth £252/year.
Marriage Allowance lets one spouse transfer £1,260 of their unused Personal Allowance to the other. It saves the receiving partner up to £252 in tax per year.
Eligibility
You must be married or in a civil partnership. One partner earns under £12,570 (no income tax). The other earns between £12,571 and £50,270 (basic rate). Both born after 6 April 1935.
Backdate it
You can backdate a claim by up to 4 tax years — potentially £1,000+ refunded. Apply at gov.uk/marriage-allowance.
